Behind the Scenes

Historically, the majority of students in performing arts programs do not go on to performing careers. Students often feel that if they do not  have the impulse or talent to perform or choreograph professionally, then they cannot have a career in dance. This has often meant students discontinue their relationship with the art form once they leave the school.

Pentacle's Behind the Scenes program expands students' understanding of the performing arts field and their options for remaining connected to dance throughout their academic and professional lives. Behind the Scenes is unique in working with public school partners to expose students to dance-related professions normally not covered in middle or high school. Behind the Scenes goes beyond exposure by providing students with hands-on opportunities to identify new areas of interest and learn the skills they need to achieve different careers in the arts. By providing students with an early awareness of behind the scenes careers in dance students come to a richer understanding of the professional art form.

Pentacle forms long-term meaningful partnerships with participating schools and works with them to tailor the program to their specific curriculum and needs. 2007-2008 marks the fifth year of Pentacle's Behind the Scenes partnership with Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, third year with Washington Irving High School and second with the Bronx Dance Academy (MS 308).
