A LIFE IN THE ARTS

Squarely within the New York City Department of Education Blueprint: Strand 5 “Exploring Careers in the Arts and Lifelong Learning,” A Life in the Arts sets aside time for students to learn about and reflect on the possibilities for pursuing the arts as their focus in higher education, and into their professional lives.  A Life in the Arts introduces students to all the non-performing careers available in the highlighted art.

A Life in the Arts workshops include:
  • Meeting with experts in the field
  • Group work to articulate career strategies and goals
  • Information sessions about higher educational opportunities in the arts

"I'm interested in journalism and now I realize I could write, perhaps, about ballet or modern dance."

A Life in the Arts can focus on any artistic discipline including: dance, theater, music, film, visual arts and photography. The program can be offered during the school year in workshop format or as a complement to middle or high school summer arts programming. Pentacle works with the partnering school to create programming that fits the unique needs of the school and its students. The programming sparks students’ thinking in a directed way about how they can continue to remain connected to dance after they graduate from high school and college.

Pentacle created A Life in the Arts for  the New York City Department of Education Summer Arts Institute 2005.
