Dear Friends,
Pentacle and its artists will be much in evidence at Arts Presenters. What follows is your treasure map.
|
PENTACLE @ ARTS PRESENTERS
Artist Representatives Ivan Sygoda, Sophie Myrtil-McCourty, Angela Luem, Michelle Coe and Doug Post will be at Booth #106 in the Rhinelander Gallery at the Hilton. We will have showcase schedules and information about the touring repertoires of all of our artists. Be sure to come by and say hello!
Change and Innovation If any two words describe the world of contemporary dance and performance, it's these two. They keep the art form young, and us with it. We've got changes and innovations to tell you about regarding our annual winter showcases. Our Roster showcase at the Ailey Citigroup Theater has a spanking new feature--Metropolitan Intersections, a new Pentacle roster, indeed a new kind of roster. It gathers together a diverse group of younger dance troupes that exemplify the cultural and aesthetic contrasts to be found in America's cities. "Younger" does not mean inexperienced; it means vibrant and affordable. The Roster and Metropolitan Intersections showcases will each run twice, kind of like those double features we used to love on Saturday afternoons. Come when you can, and stay through it all!Our popular Gallery showcase will be in a new place this year--the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis High School on West 46th Street, a ten-minute walk from the Hilton. "New" means several things here: new, in the sense of different; and new, in the sense of only recently being named for the legendary First Lady. But the building itself goes back to 1894, and was reborn in 1948 as the legendary High School of the Performing Arts. It inspired the films and television series called "Fame." Now, "Fame" was actually filmed as PS122 on the Lower East Side, which is how they got such a good dance floor, and the High School for the Performing Arts relocated to Lincoln Center in 1984. Yes, the only constant is change.Below you will find the schedule of our showcases:Roster and Metropolitan Intersections:Friday, January 7, 2011 from 6.30pm until 10.30pm - Ailey Citigroup Theatre (405 West 55th Street @ 9th Avenue)Gallery: Sunday, January 9, 2011 from 6.00pm until 10.30pm - Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis High School (120 West 46th St. just west of 6th Avenue)Complete details are below. |
