The Gallery
The Gallery is a marketing and representation initiative that provides artists/companies with exposure in the national performing arts marketplace. The Gallery is promoted as a group of artists whose work is deserving of presenter attention. Although The Gallery advocates for each individual artist, it does not actively solicit engagements on their behalf. When partnered with a company administrator who is actively soliciting the artist/company's work to presenters, The Gallery is an effective and affordable alternative to the Roster Artists program or traveling to multiple conferences yourself.
The 2012-2013 Gallery at Pentacle is an eclectic group of vibrant and talented dance makers, some of whom may be unfamiliar to you. From solo performance to culturally specific, dance-theatre to multi-disciplinary and traditional modern dance companies The Gallery encompasses a diverse range of engaging dance artists from cities across the country. www.pentacle.org/gallery

HELP DESK/L.A.
The third year of Help Desk/L.A programming began July 1st and Pentacle is excited to welcome its largest and most diverse group of artists and companies to date! A total of 16 companies and independent choreographers are participating, along with ten mentors, all highly experienced and respected arts professionals. Each year the participants work together on a group project. This year's group project on earned income and getting work begins in September.
Four groups who have previously participated in the Program will pilot a new project, Back Office, as part of Help Desk/L.A. Back Office addresses head on the critical lack of direct administrative and executive support in small and mid-sized dance organizations. Through this pilot Help Desk provides participants with a "Managing Director" who will work with each participant each week during the program period providing direct infrastructure support and guidance.
Joining L.A. based participants this cycle will be two companies based in San Francisco. This exciting development not only extends the reach of Help Desk's support but also provides new perspectives to the whole group and opens doors between the two communities.

MOVEMENT MEDIA
Screendance reviews and opportunities, Weekly Web Dances and the latest events happening world-wide... Movement Media's Blog is back! Move the Frame is the official blog of Pentacle's Movement Media, a project serving to help dance and media artists make dances for screen and use media to market their dance work more effectively. Move the Frame serves as a locus for dialogue about the screendance form and a clearing-house of information about all things dance and media related. (www.movetheframe.com)
KINETIC CINEMA
Kinetic Cinema, is a regular screening series curated by invited guest artists who create evenings of films and videos that have been influential on their own work as artists. Kinetic Cinema is dedicated to the recognition and appreciation for "moving" pictures. When artists are asked to reflect upon how the use of movement in film and media arts has influenced their own art, a plethora of new ideas, material, and avenues of exploration emerge. We have presented these evenings at Collective: Unconscious, Chez Bushwick, Interborough Repertory Theater, University Settlement, Launchpad, Green Space and The Tank in New York City, as well as at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia.
Upcoming Kinetic Cinema dates:
November 13
Kinetic Cinema will be partnering with Moviehouse at 3rd Ward in Bushwick, a monthly interactive screening series. Our guest curator will be Aynsley Vandenbroucke, a choreographer, dance blogger, and co-founder of Mount Tremper Arts, whose sparse, contemplative dances have been called a "tender reimagining of the past, and a sophisticated rumination on how an ephemeral art form can survive while staying true to its fragile, mutable essence" by the New York Times.
November 20
3:00-6:00pm
Pentacle's Movement Media and Green Space will co-present a workshop on dance for the camera:
The One-person Crew:
Techniques and strategies for getting it all done yourself
Want to make a dance film but don't know where to start? In this workshop we will focus on strategies for filming (and editing) ourselves in visually interesting and dynamic ways through camera positioning, perspective, rhythm and movement composition. We will also discuss techniques for shooting to edit without a DP. Led by dance filmmaker and former Kinetic Cinema Coordinator, Zena Bibler.
December TBA
Kinetic Cinema will be curated by Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre, who has been creating works with Artistic Director Samar Haddad running most of their rehearsals via Skype, with the company in New York and Ms. Haddad in Palestine. The company will provide a demonstration of their working technique, along with a curated selection of videos.
Check back here for updates on Kinetic Cinema events.

CULTIVATING LEADERSHIP IN DANCE provides an unparalleled opportunity for interns to receive the benefits of a structured internship program, while working intimately with emerging, unique choreographers who could not provide an internship program on their own.
Benefits to the participating intern include:
- Weekly evening workshops on topics in arts administration and career exploration
- A network of interns working for other dance companies
- A clear work plan outlining your responsibilities
This is a part-time, unpaid internship; however, college credit can be arranged. Visit our website for more information.
Partnerships: Envisioning Our Interdependence (excerpt from Pentacle's Director of Educational Programming for the Artsblog by Americans for the Arts)
POSTED BY SAHAR JAVEDANI ON JULY - 26 - 2011
As Director of Educational Programming at Pentacle in New York City, I am constantly seeking opportunities to partner with organizations that share our mission of educating students on career opportunities in the performing arts through our "Behind the Scenes" program.
Last year, we welcomed a new relationship with Exploring the Arts, Tony Bennett and Susan Benedetto's nonprofit charitable organization. We have our long-standing relationship of eight years with Frank Sinatra School of the Arts (Exploring the Arts' original partner school) to thank for providing the foundation for this continued partnership and we hope to expand it in the near future.
I believe that we've created a successful model of arts education where the collaboration of a school, funding partner, and arts education provider can come to the table with a common goal of better preparing students for entering the creative workforce through hands-on and experiential learning.

PENTACLE IN A CITY NEAR YOU...
Now in addition to our presence in New York and Los Angeles, Pentacle is excited to bring its services and programs to other cities starting in FY12.
Pentacle in Chicago
Pentacle's booking team has expanded its geographical presence! Angela Luem has relocated to Chicago where she will continue to represent a group of Pentacle artists. Angela also is working with Help Desk Director, Felicia Rosenfeld to launch a pilot cycle of Help Desk/Chicago.
Help Desk Begins in Other Cities
Thanks to support from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts, Pentacle is exploring bringing pilot versions of Help Desk to other U.S. cities. Taking into account the unique needs of the dance communities in each city, Pentacle plans to work with local partners to create a Help Desk in each targeted community that realistically and creatively meets the needs of its constituency. In tandem with addressing infrastructure needs of thinly institutionalized companies and independent artists, an end result of this plan will be a national, yet specific, network of Help Desk programming that provides creative, innovative and individualized organizational support for dance artists and companies and allows for needs to be met in a fluid, affordable and successful environment. During 2011-2012, Pentacle has a beta pilot running in the Bay Area by including two San Francisco pairings in Help Desk/L.A.Pentacle plans to launch a pilot cycle of Help Desk/Chicago in Partnership with Links Hall in July 2012
