Pentacle is currently partnered with five schools in the New York region, each with individualized programming to match the population and curriculum.

Frank Sinatra School of the Arts

Since 2003, Pentacle’s Behind The Scenes program has been at performing arts high school Frank Sinatra School of the Arts in Astoria, Queens. Pentacle administrative staff, teaching professionals, classroom teachers, and the principal all work together to develop a full 30-week residency at the school. Students have 2–3 classes a week culminating in a Senior Dance Concert. Using Pentacle’s extensive history and expertise working in the professional dance community, two teaching professionals along with one artistic mentor and one career mentor lead sessions and mentor the students in collaboration with the classroom teacher during the residency period. The curriculum includes instruction and mentoring in choreography and performance, marketing, stage and lighting design, technical production, PR and distribution, and event coordination, as well as creating and managing a production budget.

Talent Unlimited High School

Through Behind the Scenes, Pentacle has partnered with Talent Unlimited, a performing arts public high school recognized for its creative and effective approaches to combining arts and academic programming in the Upper East Side. Working closely with the school’s students in the Dance Department, teaching professionals bring their expertise to facilitate mentorship in production and administration for the annual school concert. Pentacle staff works with participating faculty and principals to customize Behind The Scenes to the school’s curriculum and budget. At Talent Unlimited, Pentacle acts as a fiscal sponsor for the student-led project so the students can have hands-on experience in learning about fundraising through an active crowdsourcing campaign.

South Bronx Charter School for International Cultures and the Arts

Pentacle has recently partnered with South Bronx Charter School For International Cultures and the Arts, an elementary school with an inquiry-based dual language program in the Bronx. For Behind the Scenes, Pentacle places one artistic mentor in the classroom to work with 5th grade students in exploring pathways in Creative Movement and Modern Dance. The movement-focused curriculum enriches the students’ learning experiences through investigating creative expression and the body.

William C. Bryant High School

Starting in Fall 2017, Pentacle is pleased to partner with William C. Bryant High School for Behind the Scenes.

Groove With Me

In 2016, Pentacle piloted a new iteration of the Behind The Scenes program in partnership with Groove With Me, a youth development organization that offers free dance classes and performance opportunities to girls in Harlem as a safe space for self-expression and creative discovery in a stable environment. During these after-school dance classes, teen girls are introduced to learning opportunities and career paths in the arts via the experiences of leaders in the field. Each session brings in two to three speakers, who share their first-hand experiences on how they achieved their current position within the arts. A series of more in-depth focus sessions are offered to Groove With Me’s Teen Leadership Committee (TLC) group. Pentacle is happy to continue this program for Spring 2017.
