Claire Porter/Portables - About Claire Porter has performed her PORTABLES in Germany, Holland, England, Latvia and Korea, in the NYC area at Danspace at St. Mark's Church, PS 122, Joe's Pub, DTW, The Kitchen, The Joyce Theater, Joyce SOHO, 92nd St. Y, Town Hall, The Bottom Line, The NY Horticulture Society, Liberty Science Center and NJPAC and at the ADF, The Lucille Ball Festival, Bates Festival, Jacob's Pillow, Florida Dance Festival, Kennedy Center, Woolly Mammoth Theater DC, Tampa Bay Off Center Theater, the Southern Theater MN, The Yard on Martha's Vineyard and others.  Porter has received several NEA Choreography Fellowships, NJSCA Choreography Fellowships (most recently for 2008), Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation Awards and commissions from DTW's First Light Project, The 92nd St Y Harkness Dance Festival, Art Matters, Domino's Pizza Company and University Dance Companies. Porter recently set a solo on Kansas City Ballet and is currently performing Namely, Muscles at festivals, conferences, theaters, medical schools and universities around the country.  She taught Laban Movement Analysis and/or choreography at NYU's Dance Education Program, Columbia Teachers College, Manhattanville College, Connecticut College, Wesleyan University and at HOPE College in MI.  She also teaches The No Nonsense Workout in Bergen County and serves on the Board of DanceNJ.  Porter has an MA in Dance from Ohio State, a BA in Mathematics and is a Laban Movement Analyst.

NAMELY MUSCLES
Namely, Muscles is a new full evening's piece with Claire Porter portraying Dr. Nickie Nom, Forensic Orthopedic Autopsy Muscular Anatomical Surgical Specialist, for the county, as she gives a reading from her new book of poems, Namely, Muscles. Her 30 plus poems enact 68 major muscles of the body and then some.

Poems include "Psoas - The Tender Bender," "Gluteus to my Ears," "Long in the Head," "Just the Meat," "The Rotator Gang," "Names on your Nerves," "Tongues," "And Now a Word From Our Tendons" and more.
