Rodney Mason - About Rodney Mason is a theatre and performance artist, utilizing his hip-hop dance skills, beat poetry and rap to create a myriad of unusual and original characters for the stage, film, television and commercials and stand-up comedy appearances. Known for his award-winning role ROME (Olivier Award Nominee, BESSIE Award Winner - Best Performance) in Rennie Harris' ROME & JEWELS, Rodney has toured the world with Rennie Harris Pure-Movement, worked with the improvisational theatre troupes Groundlings and 2nd City in Chicago. His TV appearances include the MTV Vibe awards, hosting Comedy Central, and numerous commercials as the spokesman for Tanqueray, "Tony Sinclair". Rodney has also served his country in the Gulf War. His experiences as a marine have colored his work and his performance message.

MY MOTHERS SON
My Mothers Son is a one-man multimedia show written, directed and performed by Rodney Mason. playing multiple characters from his family. Mason hosts in a Hip-Hop Stand-up dance comedy form and is assisted by "Rupret Manheim, The Royal Fool", a hyped-up circus barker who dances and speaks with a Hip-Hop Shakespeare vernacular. Rodney and Rupret take us through a slideshow of Mason's life as he breaks the "Family Curse".

My Mothers Son was first performed as Origins of Man at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival (2001), NOW Festival (2004), Aaron Davis Hall, Harlem (2005). With support from Aaron Davis Hall, the piece was developed into its full, current version, My Mothers Son. My Mothers Son has been performed at The Explorer Series 24th Street Theater, Blurred Borders Dance Festival, San Diego, and the NOW Festival at RedCAT 2007.
 
 
 
W O R K S H O P S

Rodney Mason is an artist with the vision for sharing an appreciation for diversity and is dedicated to preserving and disseminating Hip-Hop culture through workshops, lecture-demonstrations, dance residencies, mentoring programs and public performances. As a Hip Hop Theater artist, he aims to teach others how to merge Hip Hop culture (Dance, rhyming, DJing, graffiti, and style) with the theater.
