Buglisi Dance Theatre is renowned for its poignant, dramatic, and wondrously lyrical repertoire that speaks to the issues and emotions of our time. The recipient of the American Dance Guild Award for Artistic Excellence, BDT was established in 1994 (as Buglisi/Foreman Dance) by Jacqulyn Buglisi, Terese Capucilli, Christine Dakin and Donlin Foreman, who danced together as principal artists at the Martha Graham Dance Company. World-class production values and theatrical appeal have won BDT invitations to such prestigious venues as the Kennedy Center; Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival; The Joyce Theater; the Kravis Center, West Palm Beach, Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts; Vail International Dance Festival; State Theater of the Melbourne Festival, Australia; and the Prague International Dance Festival. The company's repertoire is archived at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. BDT continues to build the legacy of American culture through its interactive educational residencies, workshops and outreach programs striving to nurture within the community a personal commitment to dance as a lifelong process of discovery.

Jacqulyn Buglisi, is a noted choreographer, artistic director, principal dancer and master teacher. Renowned for highly visual, imagistic dances that use literature, history, and heroic archetypes as a primary source, Buglisi's ballets are sweeping, passionate and always rooted in a very strong physical technique. Her works are archived at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts and have been commissioned by major companies and institutions around the world including the Ananda Shankar Performing Arts Company in India, the Shanghai Song and Dance Ensemble in China, the North Carolina Dance Theater, The Juilliard School, and the Martha Graham Dance Company, where she danced as a principal for 12 years. Buglisi is Chair of the Modern Department at The Alvin Ailey School, served on the faculties of The Juilliard School and the Martha Graham School, and is the recipient of many honors, including the Fiorello LaGuardia Award for Excellence, The Gertrude Shurr Award for Dance, creation grants from the Harkness Foundation for Dance, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the New York State Council on the Arts, and Altria's prestigious 2007 Women Choreographer Initiative Award.
