Neumann's savvy examination of the ways sports behave and affect group dynamics. This humorous work takes on sporting events as contemporary performance.
The piece features Neumann's diverse cast of characters from the advanced beginner group and a live trombone choir performing music by Eve Beglarian. "Imagine Merce Cunningham coaching a soccer team comprised of members from your last family reunion." -

OH NO NATURE (or... Blaming On His Boots the Fault of His Feet)
will attempt to unpack
humankind's fraught relationship to the natural world and to its denizens we blithely categorize by class, genus and species. In addition to the six performers of advanced beginner group, collaborators include sculptor/puppeteer Chris Green, filmmaker/photographer Richard Sylvarnes and a composer to be revealed later.
SarahLawrenceCollege evolutionary biologist Dr. Richard D. Clarke has agreed to act as an advisor throughout the creative process.
COMPOSITION
The class begins with
a warm up that articulates the spine while finding ease in alignment, effort and momentum, placing focus on specificity of intentions -- be they physical, emotional or spatial. The Composition class then looks at numerous sources for inspiration including found text and movement, building a dance that finds elements geared toward the student's own interests.
PERFORMANCE
The Performance class
looks at how to connect the person/performer to the material. Not just a way to execute the material more cleanly, but ways in which to personally engage in even the most abstract material.
