RUBBERBANDance Group, David Roussève/REALITY, and Nrityagram Dance Ensemble Recognized in NY Times and Dance Magazine

RUBBERBANDance Group and David Roussève/REALITY were both acknowledged for their notable work in Wendy Perron’s Best and Worst of 2014. Victor Quijada’s Empirical Quotient was listed under “Best New Choreography” of the year, with Ms. Perron citing that the Montreal-based troupe indeed finds success in fusing the genres of “hip-hop, cirque, and ballet”. Ms. Perron was also impressed by David Roussève, who received recognition in the “Best Dance-Plus-Talking Premieres” category for the company’s performance of Stardust at Jacob’s Pillow this past summer, naming the piece as “a poignant story of deprivation and discrimination that catches at the heart”.

Alastair Macaulay showed his enthusiasm for Nrityagram Dance Ensemble‘s expert grace and beauty when performing in the Odissi genre, writing on yesterday’s performance in Chennai, India in his review titled A Sublime Touch, From Head to Heel. While commenting on Ms. Satpathy’s “spellbinding charm” and mentioning Ms. Sen’s “enthralling” ability to transfer deep emotions from the face throughout the body, Mr. Macaulay explains why the group deserves the standing ovation that they received from their home country.
