News From Pentacle Spring 2012

Spring is always a busy and exciting time at Pentacle. April and May are the peak performing months for the dance world. Yet even while the diverse and dynamic artists Pentacle represents are putting the crowning touches on our 36th season, the booking staff is hard at work on 2012-13 and beyond. Pentacle’s infrastructure and development programs, Help Desk/L.A. and Back Office are in full swing, invigorating the Southern California dance community. Help Desk/Chicago is set to launch on July 1st! Pentacle’s educational programming, Behind the Scenes, has expanded into new schools, our Fiscal Services are now being used by artists based in California, and Movement Media is having its biggest season yet of screenings, workshops, and discussions.

News From Pentacle Fall 2011
This fall Pentacle begins its 36th season and it is busier than ever. Pentacle represents an exciting array of the most dynamic and diverse dance makers-artists at the top of their respective styles and exciting emergent talent. Our programs are layered deep in the New York dance community and we are now working directly with dance communities in other metropolitan areas. With so many exciting things going on Pentacle is pleased to launch this quarterly newsletter to keep the national dance community up to date with our activities.

APPLY NOW for Gallery Representation 2012-2013

Pentacle is accepting submissions from companies for consideration for Gallery representation during 2012-2013. There is no formal application per se, but we require press materials, performance/touring schedule from the past 2-3 years, a DVD of work samples which includes a full length performance, and a fee schedule.

Pentacle welcomes David Roussève/Reality to its Roster

Los Angeles-based choreographer David Roussève has joined the Pentacle roster. He is creating “Stardust” for his Reality company, a smash-up of hip-hop and Nat “King” Cole that explores the idea of intimacy in an age of technology. In partnership with Links Hall, Pentacle brings an innovative pilot program to the Chicago dance community-Help Desk/Chicago. Pentacle created Help Desk in 1998 responding to the increasing business, organizational and professional pressures felt by creators of dance and performance art. Help Desk’s mission is to work with artists in delineating and supporting their professional systems; allowing them to maintain a stable organizational base and thus securely nurture their creative processes.

BACK OFFICE a New Management Model
No matter how well organized the Artistic Director might be, the entity can only develop so far when there is neither time nor personnel to support the creative practice, never mind to implement any long-term plans. This conundrum has a negative impact on the company's ability to grow organizationally, but more importantly it prevents the Artistic Director from engaging in and growing his/her creative process. The conception and choreography of work itself becomes stymied and suffers.
