4:15 - 4:35pm Drye Marinaro Dance Company presenting The Giving Tree
“The Giving Tree” is a dance-theater adaptation of Shel Silverstein's beloved story about the nuanced relationship between a boy and a tree. Told through dance and ASL, we explore themes of dependence, sacrifice, and love, inspired by the lived experiences of our deaf and hard-of-hearing loved ones
4:40 - 5:00pm South Chicago Dance Theatre presenting Under the Skin
Under the Skin (2024) is an original work created for SCDT by Taiwanese choreographer Tsai- Hsi Hung and composed by Iggy Hung. Under the Skin is an explosive exploration of Tsai’s painting practice and captivates audiences with its dynamic fusion of athleticism and emotional depth.
5:05 - 5:25pm Almanc Projects presenting Dead Muse & Helpful Hints for Strength & Health for Busy People
Dead Muse blurs Chicano and Jewish histories in a darkly comic, genre-defying solo work where ancestral ghosts haunt a struggling Hollywood actor. Sharply minimal, wry, and viscerally danced, it’s a heartfelt journey through memory and the shadows that connect us all.
Helpful Hints is a playful duet where a 69-year-old dancer and a 35-year-old acrobat challenge each other’s strength and friendship. Inspired by a 1901 fitness guide, it’s a tender exploration of endurance, intimacy, and the ways we hold each other through time.
5:30 - 5:50pm KAIROS Dance Theater presenting husk/vessel
husk/vessel is a powerful dance-theater work exploring the body as both a vessel of memory and a husk shaped by time, resilience, and loss. Through raw physicality, haunting imagery, and dynamic choreography, it navigates the tension between strength and fragility, presence and impermanence.
5:55 - 6:15pm Dancers Unlimited presenting Edible Tales: Ho'okupu
Blending Hawaiian land stewardship practices, New York City urban food tours, and rooftop farming, Edible Tales integrates live performance, dance films, and community interviews to illuminate the deep connections between food, ancestry, and identity.
