Pentacle Announcement: Internship Program seeking interns and partner artistic entities!

Pentacle’s Career Development programs cultivate the next generation of arts ADMINISTRATION leaders

For Interns

Pentacle’s College and Post-Graduate Internship Program seeks college students, postgraduates, or administrators above the age of 18 who are passionate about the arts and interested in expanding their knowledge of the nonprofit arts field through arts administration. This program requires a commitment of 13 hours/week for eight weeks. The session will run June 14 – August 10, 2021.

College and post-graduate internships allow participants to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit business practices and attend weekly professional development seminars led by arts leaders in the field and Pentacle staff members. Interns are matched with artistic entities according to their mutually-defined goals and previous experience. Weekly professional development seminars offer interns the opportunity to build their administrative skills, learn from their peers, and network with field leaders. Program administrators provide mentorship to the interns and monitor their progress towards strategic goals as defined by each artistic entity and intern.

Seeking Arts Administration Interns

Interns must be available to work for their artistic entities 10 hours per week over an 8-week session and attend one 2-hour evening seminar each week at the Pentacle office. Outside work to prepare for seminars totaling 1-hour per week may be required occasionally.

In the final month of the internship, interns have the opportunity to discuss extending their internship to work with their designated arts organization beyond the program period.

We will be encouraging participants to abide by the current NY State guidelines regarding in-person activities. Remote and in-person internships will be assigned based on applicant’s preferences. The weekly seminars for interns will be held over Zoom. We are open to interns and artistic entities outside of NYC.

For Artistic Entities Looking for an Intern

Pentacle’s College and Post-Graduate Internship Program seeks individual artists and artistic entities who are interested in expanding their administrative capacity through a structured internship program. The program matches each participating entity with a college or post-graduate intern for 10 hours/week for a period of eight weeks. The Fall 2020 session will run June 14 – August 10, 2021. The deadline for partner artistic entities to apply is Friday, May 14, 2021. There is a $600 fee for participating partner artistic entities. This fee goes towards the intern’s stipend, guest speaker honorariums, and administrative time from Pentacle’s Education & Outreach staff.

Internship Program Testimonial

Through an extensive recruitment and interview process, Pentacle identifies potential interns and pairs members of the cohort with participating artistic entities. Artistic entities are required to submit an interest form detailing their mission, activities, and plans for the intern. This information is used to make appropriate matches.

During the program, artistic entities’ interns gain hands-on experience in nonprofit business practices and attend weekly professional development seminars led by Pentacle staff members and visiting arts professionals. Through this dual experience, interns have an opportunity to build their hard and soft skill sets, engage with artistic entities’ administrative efforts, learn from their peers, and meet industry leaders. Participating entities also have the opportunity to engage with interns through a supportive network and build their administrative capacity.

All artistic entities are welcome, there is no required budget size or incorporation status.

Working with an intern through Pentacle provides a greater sense of intern commitment and accountability due to the program’s structure and Pentacle’s role as a facilitating organization.

We will be encouraging participants to abide by the current NY State guidelines regarding in-person activities. Remote and in-person internships will be assigned based on applicant’s preferences. The weekly seminars for interns will be held over Zoom. We are open to interns and artistic entities outside of NYC.
